Brazing Flat Copper Wires

The joints of stacked, flat copper wires – like those often used in various types of electrical machine manufacturing – are easy to braze with a handheld, coaxial transformer mounted on a pneumatic brazing pistol attached to the generator via a cable output of up to 15 meters long (49 ft). The switch on the pistol actuates the plunger as the operator brazes the first joint.  A pre-set power value entered into the induction power supply’s touch screen assures braze quality and consistency as the operator moves from joint to joint. Watch our video below to see how easy it is to braze flat copper wires or connect copper lines.

Strand brazing in the production of electric motors

MiniMICO induction power supply by eldec LLCBrazing flat copper wires for electric motors is complicated. Making a high-quality joint without damaging any insulation that has already been fitted can be challenging. Using an eldec medium frequency power supply fitted with a boom arm for support and balance and a brazing pistol to hold the workpiece specific induction coil, flat wires can be brazed repeatedly and precisely without operator fatigue or damage to adjacent insulation. High speeds used in the induction brazing process reduce the amount of heat that would be normally transferred to the insulated area, and the boom arm reduces the amount of weight the operator holds. Best of all, the reproducible process delivers consistent and high-quality brazed joints.

We recommend using a medium frequency, induction power supply from eldec’s MiniMICO series for strand brazing performance and flexibility. MiniMICO induction heating systems are available in 15 kW to 30 kW configurations. They come standard as mobile systems complete with casters and crane hooks and can be equipped with a wide variety of tools, including, inductors, brazing pistols and auxiliary devices.

The simple touch screen makes operation uncomplicated.  Additional features include:

  • Integrated frequency converter and coolant system in a single housing
  • Coaxial cable customized for the proper length for the application
  • Flex Arm boom
  • Foot pedal (optional)
  • Pyrometer for temperature measurement (optional)
  • Energy efficient technology that allows precise control over the amount of energy required

Our support doesn’t stop with recommending the power supply. We also design and custom manufacture all of our induction heating coils for each specific application and will work with you to optimize your production process. In addition, we offer operator and maintenance training to make sure your operation continues to run smoothly.

MF power supply with boom arm and brazing pistol for consistent and high-quality joints

Braze more precisely and safely using an eldec brazing pistol. These handy, pneumatic tools are designed to grip the workpiece as well as hold the induction coil during the brazing process. Flexible boom arms are used to support the weight of the pistol, the induction coil and the coaxial cables, allowing operators to braze longer with less fatigue and reduces the risks of repetitive movement injuries.
